REASONS

When I began this blog , I had a task to be done. I was doing a very interesting course called Drama and Storytelling and I had to write a play outline using my own blog. I didn´t have one so here I am!
I´d like to go on working with it. I´d like it to be related to English language, teaching, learning, improving...

A play outline

TITLE: The Taming of the Shrew by William Shakespeare.

RECOMMENDED AGE GROUP: Level 4

CHARACTERS:

Baptista Minola.- Padua’s saloon owner who  has two beautiful but very different daughters.

Bianca Minola.- One of Baptista´s daughter. She is very gentle and has several admirers.

Kate Minola.- Bianca´s sister. She is very bad- tempered.

Hortensio .- One of Bianca´s admirers. He is Sheriff of Padua.

Petruchio .- Hortensio´s friend. He is persuaded by his friend to court Kate.

Gremio .- Bianca´s admirer. He is the elderly town undertaker.

Lucentio .- A young gentleman .

Tranio .- Lucentio´s servant.

SYNOPSIS                                                                                                           Ferocious and beautiful, Kate is a force to be reckoned with for any man!
When Petruchio rides into the sleepy Texan town of Padua seeking fortune and a wife, he sets his sights on the sharp-tongued shrew. He’ll do anything to tame Kate’s wild ways and get a ring on her finger.
But the wedding’s a joke and the marriage a farce. Who will win in this barn-storming comedy of brawling lovers?

CHARACTER OBJECTIVES – What does each character want?

Baptista Minola .- He wants Kate to marry before her sister. In fact, he forbids Bianca from marrying before Kate.

Bianca Minola.- She wants to marry Hortensio.

Kate Minola.- She wants to marry nobody

Hortensio.- He loves Bianca so he wants to marry her.

Petruchio.- He is travelling in search of fortune and a wife.

Gremio.- He wants to marry Bianca.

Lucentio.- He wants to court Bianca and marry her.

SCENE BREAKDOWN

The play is set in the Wild West.
Scene 1
In Baptista´s saloon. Kate is giving her opinion about men (who needs them?), marriage and being free. Bianca is trying to calm her down.

Scene 2
Petruchio and Hortensio enter and Petruchio, who is looking for a wife, thinks he has just found the perfect woman.
He asks Baptista for his daughter´s hand.
Scene 3
In a barn. Petruchio doesn´t let Kate eat, sleep or rest. She has to do all the housework and complains all the time.
Petruchio praises her. He doesn´t pay attention to her complaints.
Scene 4
Kate is exhausted, confused, hungry and dirty. They decide to return to Padua and marry.
Scene 5
The wedding party where we can see Kate very happy with her Charming Prince and Bianca with Lucentio, the young gentleman who is a big-hearted person.
